Bystander training events | Neighbourhood Watch Network

Picture this: you're on the bus or tube, and you see someone being harassed. There are dozens of people around. Surely someone will help, right? But here's the thing, everyone's thinking the same thing. And that's the problem.

This is called the bystander effect. It's a psychological phenomenon where the more people who witness an emergency or crime, the less likely anyone is to step in and help. Which sounds strange, you’d probably expect the opposite to be true. 

We know that given a chance, most people want to help. But we hold back, because we don’t know what to do, or how to do it safely. 

Funded by City Bridge Foundation, we've created bystander intervention training specifically for people living in and around London, so you can take action through safe and simple interventions.
